Getting my laptop back…

It never physically went anywhere , but it was on target to be flung out a window about yesterday.

I’m not talking about my old Dell running Ubuntu, but rather my work Toshiba running Win XP.

I installed Office 2007 beta a couple of weeks back and was for the most part enjoying it.

Its most negative feature however, is performance.  It is slow, and in some cases VERY slow.

Starting up Outlook was a time consuming process, and often it would go a little nuts - allocating over 1/2 Gig of RAM and generally bringing the computer to a halt.  Additionally I had Windows Desktop search installed - which used to use 70 MB ram just sitting aroud doing nothing.

So, after an afternoon of totally lost productivity in which the slightest mouse click would bring minutes of agonising waiting I had had enough.

I got home two hours later than normal, but Office 2007 is now a memory (As is Windows Desktop Search), and I’m back on Office 2003.

The laptop is now noticibly quicker - and I don’t miss any of the features of 2007 (yet)!
